Sunrise: Starts September 7th.
Sunrise A: During this sunrise, only individuals who are a member of the sponsored community can register an .xxx domain. A member of the sponsored community is someone who already operates pornographic website.
In general, these applicants may participate in Sunrise A on the basis of one of the following two qualifications:
- Applicants are engaged in eligible commerce for registration under an issued qualifying trademark registration and they satisfy the sponsored community definition, or;
- Applicants own and operate an existing domain name in another gTLD or ccTLD (in connection with eligible commerce for registration in the .XXX) and they satisfy the Sponsored Community definition. This process is often referred to as Grandfathering (from an existing TLD).
In the event that a domain name is subject to competing applications by at least two Sunrise A applicants then the domain name will be auctioned among all qualified applicants. The registry will not be running a first come first served approach to the Sunrise - all Sunrise applications will be viewed as having arrived at the same time.
Sunrise B: is aimed at Sunrise applicants from outside of the Sponsored Community. These applicants are owners of a qualifying trademark registration that are seeking to reserve names in order to ensure these corresponding names in .XXX are not registered as domains names by others. At the close of the Sunrise period, if a conflicting application by another Sunrise A applicant has not been made then these names will be reserved from registration (blocked).
Sunrise A will have priority over Sunrise B. A successful application to block a domain name by a single qualified applicant under Sunrise B and not subject to a competing application from a Sponsored Community applicant under Sunrise A will be designated “reserved – trademark” or similar.
In the event that there is more than one qualified applicant under Sunrise B, the name will be reserved in exactly the same way as if there were only a single applicant and there will be no refund or apportionment of fees among such applicants.
Landrush period: Starts November 8th
This Period starts on November 8th 2011 until November 25th and will allow ONLY members of the Sponsored Community to apply for names. Apart from being a member of the Sponsored Community there are not any trademark or pre-ownership rights needed during this Phase.
Its is NOT a first come first served arrangement and at the end of the Landrush period names with a single applicant will be automatically allocated and those with more than one applicant will proceed to a mini auction between the competing parties.
General Availability Period: Starts December 6th
General Availability begins December 6, 2011, and remaining .XXX domain names will be allocated to applicants on a first come, first served basis.
Non-members of the Sponsored Community will have the opportunity to register domain namesdefensively. They will simply register the domain, not authenticate on our website and the domain will not resolve.
The intention is to protect their intellectual property for personal domain names, company domain names, product domain names, etc. that didn't have prior qualifying rights under Sunrise A or Sunrise B.
